Envisioning and designing your kitchen remodel is an exciting time, but moving into the actual renovation is sure to incite a little bit of chaos. We all have busy lives and busy schedules, so don’t let the mess and feelings of kitchen displacement put you off of creating the kitchen of your dreams.
With preparation and foresight, we can show you how to make your kitchen remodel less of a headache.
Don’t leave all of the packing to the last minute. When packing up all of your things, be sure to label the boxes clearly, as well as create an “easy access” box where your most used items are easily accessible while your kitchen is out of order.
Things like the coffee maker, microwave, favorite spices, and handy utensils (wine opener, anyone?) would be great items to leave unpacked and transport them to your temporary kitchen space.
Once you figure out what you are going to eat, then you will be able to figure out what is required to eat it. Do you plan on eating takeout often? Grab menus from all of your favorite places (especially ones that deliver!). Do you intend to make meals at home? Will they be freezer meals, microwave meals, or something a little more extravagant?
Once you figure out how you are going to eat your meals each day, then you can take the necessary steps to ensure that you have everything you need to achieve those plans.
Any type of major home renovation is going to come with some bumps along the way. Finding joy in the process will help to make everything feel much smoother and easier. While you are in good spirits, make sure that you have all of the contracts, budget, contact information for everyone who will be working on your space, as well as any other important paperwork or timelines firmly in place and agreed between all parties. This will eliminate as many surprises as possible, while also opening up lines of communication when you do encounter unexpected circumstances.
With some preparation, acknowledging (and probably lowering) our expectations, and finding our funny bone during a time that feels anything but funny, you’ll be on your way to making your kitchen renovation less of a headache.
